Focus on Polypodium leucotomos
Polypodium leucotomos is a tropical fern that grows on the plateau of the Andean Cordillera in South America, as well as in some high-altitude regions of Central America. It was introduced into Europe by the botanist Hipólito Ruiz López when he returned from a botanical expedition financed by the Spanish crown at the end of the 18th century.

Porphyral HSP® is an ingredient patented by Pileje, an extract of Porphyra umbilicalis, an edible seaweed that grows along the coastline of Brittany. Brownish-purple in colour, Porphyra umbilicalis turns almost black when exposed at low tide, but returns to its original colour when the ocean covers it again! As with many plants living in a hostile environment, it has managed to adapt to its surroundings to survive and proliferate.

Rather like metals, our organisms oxidise upon contact with oxygen and generate what are called free radicals. These are harmful molecules which, in excess, can accelerate the effects of ageing. We all have “antioxidant” systems to fight free radicals.
Sometimes, however, our systems are overloaded with an accelerated production of free radicals caused by environmental factors (toxins, smoke, pollutants, sun, etc.).
