It is an evergreen tree of the Myrtaceae family native to the tropical areas of Australia. It can reach up to 25 m in height, with a cracking bark, its leaves up to 10 cm long are ashy green, thick and lanceolate. The small, cream-colored flowers are gathered in terminal spikes. The essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves and flower spikes.
